Instructions for Placing Materials on Course Reserve
Use the Course Reserves
Request Form to list both print (hard-copy)
and electronic reserve readings. Give the completed form along
with your reserve materials to any staff at the Library Circulation
Desk. Temporary barcodes and labels will be attached to all
hard-copy reserve items. If you would like the Library to purchase
a book or video for course reserves, please contact one of our
subject librarians. Allow
at least six weeks for the purchase of new items. If filling
out the form electronically, the form can be saved, attached
to an e-mail, and sent to libraryreserves@uhd.edu.
If you submit a form by e-mail, send the corresponding reserve
material either by mail or in-person. Your course reserve list
will be created when we receive both the form and materials.
Copyrighted materials made electronically available will be
password protected for copyright compliance purposes. You will
receive that password from the Library after your materials
have been processed. Faculty are responsible for giving students
the needed password to view electronic documents. The Library
staff will not have access to those passwords.
- The use of copies, either hard-copy photocopies or scanned
documents from originals, must comply with copyright law.
Reproduction of materials that oppose “Fair Use”
(unacceptable to copy) will not be placed on Reserve.
- Any copyrighted reading material made electronically available
will be password protected for copyright compliance purposes.
You will receive that password from the Library after your
materials have been processed.
- The Library will not copy material from a category of works
called “consumables.” These include workbooks,
lab manuals and test answer sheets – any item designed
to be used by one person, by being filled out or written on.
- If you want to submit an original, unpublished work belonging
to someone else (e.g. student paper or project), you must
obtain their permission. Please use the Original
Materials Permission Form (PDF, 19 KB) and submit the
form with your materials.
- Course reserves are visible during the active semester.
On the last day of exams all course reserves are taken offline
for copyright compliance purposes.
- Once materials are available, students can look them up
on ERes by going to the library’s webpage (www.uhd.edu/library)
and clicking on “Course Reserves.” To access electronic
reserve items, students will need the password provided by
their instructors. Faculty are responsible for giving students
the needed password to view electronic documents. The Library
staff will not have access to those passwords. To borrow any
hard-copy materials on reserve, students need to present a
valid student ID at the Circulation Desk. Note that the hard-copy
reserve items usually have short loan periods. Students can
access any electronic reserve items 24 hours a day.
