Connecting to Electronic Resources

When connecting to electronic resources purchased by the University, you may be asked to enter your UHD-ID and PIN. If you cannot connect, please use Ask a Librarian to report the problem. You may also find quick solutions to some common connection problems on this page.

What is my User ID and User PIN?

UHD Students

  • Your User ID the nine-digit UHD-ID on your Gator Card. Don't know it? Please see Look Up UHD-ID.
  • Your User PIN is your six-character e-services PIN. Don't know it? See Forgotten Your PIN.

UHD Faculty and Staff

  • Your User ID is your nine-digit UHD-ID. Don't know it? Please ask administrative staff in your department.
  • Your User PIN is your six-character e-services PIN. Don't know it? See Forgotten Your PIN. You will receive a temporary PIN by Gatormail. When you receive it, go to faculty/staff e-services, choose "My Personal Data" and then "Change PIN."

Alumni and Guests

  • Due to license restrictions, we must limit remote access to current UHD students, faculty, and staff.
  • Most electronic resources are available to alumni and guests who visit the library in person (see Visitor Information).
  • Remote access to some electronic resources is also available from Texas public libraries.

Technical Problems

Please use Ask a Librarian to report technical problems. When reporting a problem, please give us a description of the problem, the name of the source you were using, the name of your Internet provider, and the name of your Internet browsing software (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc.). Notices of temporary technical problems are posted to the Library Blog.

Login Screens

You should see the following login screen when you connect from home or off-campus:

Please enter your User ID and User PIN

If you see a different login screen, please use Ask a Librarian to report the problem.

 

ID and PIN Problems

If the login screen will not accept your UHD-ID and PIN, it may help to reset your PIN:

  1. Connect to student e-services or faculty/staff e-services.
  2. Choose "My Personal Data."
  3. Login to your account.
  4. Choose "Change PIN" and follow the instructions on your

EZProxy Messages

If you see the following message, please use Ask a Librarian to let us know:

          ... "your EZproxy administrator must first authorize this within the ezproxy cfg file"

When reporting this problem, please tell us which source you want to access.

 

Dial-Up Internet Service

Some Internet providers offer customized browser software that may conflict with library databases.

If you have persistent technical problems with a dial-up service, please follow these steps:

  1. Download free software like Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox, or Opera.
  2. Connect to the Internet with AOL Dial-Up.
  3. Minimize your AOL Dial-Up software.
  4. Open the download software.
  5. Connect to library databases through that software.

 

Workplace Access Problems

Some employers use security systems that block access to our proxy server. We take steps to minimize this problem, but we cannot guarantee that all users will be able to connect from their workplace. If you have a persistent problem, please talk to your employer's network administrators.
