| EARLY BIRD TESTING DATES |
TSI AND PLACEMENT TESTING
- Texas Success Initiative (TSI):
In order to enhance student success, this state-mandated program evaluates college readiness in math, reading, and writing. All students (unless exempt) entering UHD as undergraduates for the first time are required to take the ACCUPLACER, ASSET, COMPASS, or THEA test for TSI purposes. Exemptions are noted in the UHD catalog (www.uhd.edu). If you are exempted from TSI or have previously completed a TSI test, please bring the corresponding documents with you to orientation. If you have not previously taken a TSI test, you will be administered the ACCUPLACER test during orientation to satisfy your TSI requirements.
- UHD Placement Testing:
In addition to TSI testing, all first time freshman students entering UHD are required to take the ACCUPLACER test for placement in math, reading, and english courses. All students must take this test regardless of exemptions to TSI testing. You will be administered the ACCUPLACER test before orientation to satisfy your placement requirements.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT AND CLEP CREDIT
UHD accepts up to 24 hours of credit by examination including AP and CLEP credit. Acceptable examinations and their approved credits are listed in the UHD catalog (www.uhd.edu). Official copies of your scores must be submitted to the Registrar's Office in order to receive credit(s).
DUAL CREDIT AND COLLEGE-LEVEL COURSES
If you have completed dual credit or have previously taken courses for college credit, you may have your credits/courses evaluated to transfer them to UHD. Official copies of your transcripts must be submitted to the Office of Admissions in order to receive credit(s).
ACADEMIC ADVISING
Advising and registering for classes is a big part of your orientation program. You will meet with academic advisors that will assist you with advising in order to register for classes. It is important that you follow your orientation schedule to ensure you do not miss any parts critical to advising and registration.
UNIVERSITY COLLEGE
All new undergraduate students are first admitted into University College. University College is responsible for assisting students in their academic progress until they declare a major. Students are encouraged to officially declare majors when they have completed 30-60 credit hours of college-level coursework. All students are considered undeclared until they meet the requirements to declare a major.
SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID
A variety of state and federal grants, loans, and scholarships are available to help you with educational expenses through the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. A financial aid representative will be present to answer questions at orientation.
