Proactive academic counseling is designed as an early intervention for freshmen experiencing difficulty in adapting to the higher education environment. Because first-year studensts often do not seek out assistance, it is crucial that LC counselors engage at-risk students concerning their difficulties and offer guidance in goal setting, time management, and curriculum and financial planning.
Counselors monitor students' TSI status, track academic progress in the first two years of study and develop four- to six-year academic plans that will motivate students to persist, complete the core curriculum, and declare a major early in their academic careers.
