Research Interests: Automated Reasoning and Decision Making, Computability/Complexity, Numerical Analysis, Functional Analysis.
Goals: To make the Department of Computer and Mathematical Sciences at UH-Downtown a Center of Excellence in undergraduate computational and mathematical sciences education and research amongst urban institutions in the United States. "I would like to increase the visibility of women and underrepresented minorities in these fields, therefore, I diligently seek funding for programs which promote these opportunities."
Courses Taught: upper level computer science courses, Senior Thesis, Senior Seminar and a host of mathematics courses.
Some Grants Awarded: Has successfully sought outside funding amounting to over $6 million for departmental programs including: U.S. Army Research Office grant, 1995, "Parallel and Interactive Simulation Technology," $2.4 million for 5 years; State of Texas Eisenhower Minority Teacher Internship/Retooling Program, 1994 $25,000; State of Texas Eisenhower Grants for Houston PREP totaling more than $160,000 for the last six years; NASA Johnson Space Center grants totaling more than $270,000 for "Research Study to Measure the Changes in Minority Middle and High School Participants, Interests, and Opinions About Scientific and Technical Field and Careers," and "Scientific and Technical Instructional Support Focusing on Underrepresented Minority Institutions Infrastructure Grant, $780,000 for 5 years.
Hobbies: Photography, music, opera, ballet, musicals, art collection (paintings, sculptures, cottage industries, church art, artifacts, handicrafts), history (Renaissance, Pre-Renaissance, modern), hiking, aerobics, weight training, romance languages.
