Teacher
training sessions are being undertaken in collaboration with the below entities.
These training sessions involve hands-on exposure/experience to new
technologies and educational materials. The
ultimate goal of the sessions is for teachers to disseminate these materials and
objectives within their classrooms at their respective schools.
Participants include middle and high school teachers from the Greater
Houston Area, including Aldine, Galena Park, and Houston Independent School
Districts. Through future funding,
we plan to make all developed curriculum accessible interactive online from the
C2SDS’s website (www.uhd.edu/ccsds).
Project
SKYMath This
is a joint project of NASA and NSF. Training
sessions are offered to teachers for use of the 16 classroom activities of
SKYMath, which is an effective and innovative way to present elements of the
middle school mathematics curriculum.
NASA
– Urban Outreach Program in Space Science Through this grant, a
weeklong training session is conducted during summers.
NASA scientists and master teachers train PREP teachers and program
assistants before the program begins. PREP
teachers implement the NASA materials into their curriculum to prepare students
to develop science projects for NASA Day within PREP.
Houston
ISD – HU-LINC
C2SDS seeks grants each summer to conduct weeklong teacher
training seminars for Houston ISD secondary teachers to integrate mathematics
and technology into middle schools.
University of Houston-Downtown Teacher training is conducted using materials from previous
training. The following sessions
are provided: 1) Each April, for
high school teachers chaperoning teams in the Annual High School Programming and
Mathematics Contests at UHD; 2) Training sessions, prior to week of Houston PREP
each year, for the program instructors and program assistants (To enhance the
Houston PREP program, we have enhanced the training sessions to better prepare
the program staff, especially in Logic, calculator use, online material,
engineering, and technology).
