Description of Internship

SEARCH’s programs are: street outreach, a drop-in center, permanent housing for those who are disabled, employment services, adult literacy, GED preparation, and early childhood development.

Students will become aware of the reasons people become homeless, how they remain homeless, and what it takes to exit homelessness. They meet with SEARCH managers to discuss our various programs. They observe activities on street outreach, in our day shelter and in case management sessions with clients. Primarily they assist the case managers by making phone calls, helping them transport clients to appointments, go with the case manager on home visits, help the client with obtain clothing or access the food pantry.

Criteria for Interns

We prefer age 18 or older. It’s important to have someone who is a self-starter and highly motivated. We prefer someone who is able to write grammatically correct sentences and paragraphs. It is also important to have someone who is reliable. We prefer psychology or sociology students. It’s important to us that we can provide valuable learning experiences to students. Our knowledge base and conversations as an organization are more appropriate for those disciplines. We require a criminal background check for someone who would like to be placed in our early childhood center.
